Recovering from Stroke – Energy Healing

Recovering from a stroke with energy healing or acupuncture.

Suddenly you feel a portion of your body pause, loose sensation and stop functioning correctly. Your eyes may see double, your tongue might tingle, and your arm or leg may drag for few minutes. If these symptoms continue for a few minutes (15-20) you are having a stroke. Those are the symptoms of a TIA or Transient Ischemic Attack, known as a mini stroke. The sneaky part is that in both a TIA and a lesser stroke, the symptoms come and go for the lucky individual. If you can’t produce an even smile on both sides of your face, remember the date, or have continued numbness on one side of your body, go to the hospital emergency room immediately. You have a 3-hour window to have an opportunity to reverse any major damage.

For those who exhibit and experience major impairment and who are unable to obtain immediate treatment, stroke damage may result in paralysis, nerve damage, and other dehabilitating symptoms. The good news is, usually in time, you can have some form of restored function in the areas of your body that were initially damaged.

Acupuncture has recently been providing significant restorative results by improving some physical functions for stroke victims. According to CBC News, “The functional electrical stimulation acupuncture, recovering from strokerowing machine, developed by researchers in Edmonton and England, helps people with disabilities (paraplegics and others) enjoy the benefits of regular exercise.”

As a medical intuitive and distance energy healer, energy healing is another modality that provides electromagnetic stimulation and shows great promise in treating and curing stroke damage and regenerating damaged nerves. By using directed electromagnetic bio molecular energy healing, we can reframe bio structures, ie nerve impulse generators and their neural pathways that direct your body’s physical functions to their initial blueprint of health. Neural pathways can be restructured so that those with paralysis can move their legs or arms. Numb extremities can be revived and regenerated to sensation.

In several clients with stroke complications, after their cellular and neural connections were restored and regenerated, physical therapy was used to restrengthen their muscles that had weakened due to lack of use during the early stages of their rehabilitation. To date, various stroke symptoms and complications can be lessened or reversed with energy healing.

Energy healing is cutting edge and is being clinically recovering from stroke, energy healingresearched as a healing modality that shows great promise in assisting and restoring the physical health of those who have experienced a stroke.

Are Vegetables Good Stroke Medications ?

Can you lower your chance of Stroke with Vegetables ?

stroke medications, treatment of strokeThe chance of suffering from an ischemic stroke can be reduced by consuming vegetables, research shows. An ischemic stroke can occur when a blood clot blocks the flow of blood to the brain. Symptoms including temporary paralysis can last from a few seconds to a few hours. This is the most common type of stroke that affects the population.

Recent research has shown that diets rich in folate, or folic acid as it is otherwise known as, is an essential component in reducing the chance of stroke. Part of the B vitamin complex, folic acid is required for cardiovascular health as well as prenatal health. Folic acid is abundant in vegetables, particularly green leafy vegetables, beans and beets.

Compared with those people in the study who did not eat as many vegetables, those who had diets rich in vegetables were able to lower their risk by as much as 26 percent! This research shows that eating healthy is the first line of defense in disease prevention.

Since many people are always on the go, they may feel as though it is hard to get the required vegetables in their diet. To supplement active lifestyles, consider adding a diet pill that contains B vitamins in the ingredients. Other non-vegetable sources of B vitamins that are similar to those found in vegetables are energy drinks. Energy drinks that do not disrupt sleep at night nor cause a major energy crash after a spurt of energy can also be a convenient source of stroke fighting vitamins. stroke medications, chance of stroke < align=”right” />

Other than diets rich in vitamins, diets that are rounded out with low fat dairy and lean protein are an excellent way to prevent stroke. Rather than bacon and eggs for breakfast, blending together a whey protein shake. This is also a delicious way to achieve better health.

Symptoms Before a Stroke

Early Warning Symptoms of a Stroke

The various symptoms of a stroke are elaborated.

Early Warning Signs and Symptoms of a Stroke

A stroke or brain attack is a medical condition that demands quick medical attention. It happens that many strokes do not cause severe pain and due to this there is delay in treatment and considerable brain tissue damage.

Stroke symptoms
When brain cells are deprived of oxygen, they do not perform the usual functions. The area of the brain that have been affected and the amount of brain tissue damage decide the symptoms. Small strokes do not result in any symptoms, but cause damage to the brain tissue. Such strokes accompanied by an absence of symptoms are called "silent strokes". The symptoms of the stroke come on in a minute or an hours. There is generally no pain accompanying these symptoms. The symptoms may appear and disappear or disappear completely or become worse in a span of a few hours. One third of all the strokes take place during the sleep. Hence, the symptoms are noticed after waking up. The different symptoms of a stroke are as follows:

  • weakness in the arm or leg or both on the same side : there may be a mild weakness or total paralysis. A total numbness or a pins-and-needles feeling may be present on one side of the body or part of a side.
  • coordination problems : stumbling is possible or there may be difficulty picking up objects.
  • weakness in the muscles of the face : the face may droop or look lopsided. There may be slurring in speech as it is not possible to control the movement of the lips or tongue.
  • dizziness : there is a feeling of being drunk or dizzy or difficulty swallowing.
  • difficulty speaking : speech may be slurred or while speaking the words won’t make sense.
  • sudden headache : there is a very sudden and severe headache.
  • vision problems : there may be double vision, loss of peripheral vision or blindness.
  • loss on consciousness : the person may become unconscious, stuporous or hard to arouse.
  • sudden confusion
  • difficulty walking
  • vomiting
  • dizziness or lightheadedness
  • sudden loss of balance or coordination
  • numbness, paralysis or weakness on one side of the body
  • seizure

Signs of a TIA
For many people, a stroke has no warning. However, a possible sign of an impending stroke is a transient ischemic attack (TIA). This is a temporary interruption of blood flow to a part of the brain. The symptoms of TIA are the same as that of a stroke, but they last for a small time which may be some minutes to 24 hours. These then disappear and do not leave apparent permanent effects. A TIA shows a serious risk that a full-blown stroke may follow. The symptoms are as follows:

  • when oxygen to the eye is reduced, there may be poor night vision. About one-third of TIAs are characterized by temporary lost vision of one eye.
  • If the cerebral hemisphere is affected, the patient can feel problems with speech and partial or temporary paralysis, numbness, tingling and drooping eyelid generally on one part of the body. In case the stroke injuries are on the right side of the brain, the symptoms are seen on the left side and vice versa.

Types of strokes
There are two main types of strokes:
Ischemic stroke : In this the blood supply to a part of the brain is blocked. Due to this oxygen and nutrients reaching the brain cells are blocked. These cells begin to die in a few minutes. Due to atherosclerosis, the plaque can restrict blood flow in the artery or lead to a blood clot that can block the flow. When a clot or other small piece of material lodges in an artery in the brain, it is called an embolic stroke. Irregular heart rhythms lead to such embolic strokes and these are preventable.

Hermorrhagic stroke : A blood vessel within the brain leaks or ruptures causing a intracerebral hemorrhage. High blood pressure is the prevalent reason of intracerebral hemorrhage. In a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a small bubble on an artery causes leak under the lining of the brain.

After Stroke Recovery – My Miracles Part 1

My childhood had been plagued by lack of endurance and migraines. In my midlife, I found that miracles had kept me alive. I believe that I’ve always had an angel with me. In the last article, "Migraines and Miracles in My Life", I gave details of my life with migraines and the problems they caused and how I believed angels are always with me, keeping me safe and alive. There had been a beautiful snowfall on Thursday night in February, so school was cancelled and I didn’t have to teach. I was being plagued by a severe headache that wasn’t going away, even with medicine. Taking a break from cleaning, I thought I’d enjoy the weather and clear some snow from our driveway and boat for half an hour. The weather was sunny and warm, but I needed to finish my cleaning so I went back inside.

My youngest son had just gotten home from college and was talking to me when a big, loud pop happened. My ears were ringing and everything sounded funny. I was squatting in front of the television putting up videos. I asked my son to help me and he started laughing. I thought he was laughing because I asked him to help me. So, I repeated my request but he again laughed and asked what I was saying. I lifted my arm and waved over the videos to tell him that I wanted him to help me put the videos away but then realized that I wasn’t talking right. I asked him to "come", to show him the videos but then I realized that my arm and hand were just flailing between the ceiling and the floor.

recovering from stroke

He quit laughing and hurriedly came to me and helped me get to the sofa and said there was something wrong with me. He took my blood pressure and told me to calm down. He wanted to call 911 but I shook my head and managed to say "wait". He continued to monitor me until his father came home within the hour. Within a couple of hours, I could speak a word or two, very slowly and decided that I must have had a TA, which is a ‘small’ stroke. It was late Friday and I didn’t want to spend the weekend in the hospital, so I took it easy by trying to read and write. By bedtime, I wasn’t writing very well or reading and understanding.

The next morning when I got up, I couldn’t walk very well and still couldn’t talk right, so I decided I needed to go see my doctor. She gave us a list of tests to have done after she scolded me for not going to the ER. After blood tests and MRI, I saw a neurologist, who confirmed it was a stroke. He tested to see what caused it but didn’t find any of the usual things that are evident during a stroke. I didn’t have high blood pressure or plaque in my arteries. I didn’t smoke, I wasn’t obese and did not have uncontrolled high cholesterol. The neurologist put me on blood thinners and sent me to a cardiologist who also started to perform tests. This story is  continued in Part 2

Recovering from Stroke – My Miracles Part 2

The miracles were very evident to me during this time because I was able to see the neurologist almost immediately, which was amazing. He knew a great cardiologist who also put me right in to his schedule, another miracle. My cardiologist did a number of tests and found that I had a congenital heart defect called ASD, which is an Atria Septum Defect, or a hole in my heart. Yet another miracle had occurred because my angel had been protecting me my whole life. Heart defects can kill a person if not fixed early and they could cause serious blood infections that could kill a person having dental work. I was fortunate having my angel always there to protect me, keep me alive, and blessed.

It was a miracle that I had not died during numerous, involved dental visits. It was a miracle that I did not suffer a massive stroke. It is a miracle that I have not been left with serious handicaps from the stroke and it is a miracle that so much function has been restored to my body. It is a miracle that my son was home and a miracle that I had wonderful doctors who took me right in to find the cause of the stroke and have connections with surgeons who could operate immediately.

memory recovery after stroke

All medical professionals have very strict schedules, yet they treated me quickly, as if I was in the hospital and not an outpatient. I have been very blessed and give thanks for my angel and for all the miracles that I have received. The next step after finding the cause of the stroke was open heart surgery, but first I had to find a surgeon. For the weeks that all my medical tests were being done, I continued to look online to see what was going to happen next. I found that a skilled cardio-pulmonary spet could do my surgery as non-invasive, meaning that my chest would not need to be cut open and cracked. The surgery could actually be done through a serious of small holes and one small incision. I hoped and prayed that we could find such a skilled surgeon.

As my luck would have it and the way I was being blessed during this period of my life, there was a surgeon at the hospital the very day I was having a heart catheterization. My cardiologist put a call in to him and before I left the hospital, I had actually met the surgeon who would be doing the heart surgery on me. We discussed the minimal invasive surgery and he said that I was a good candidate for that type of surgery. Again, I was blessed to be in the right place at the right time to receive the miracle of skilled surgeon being at same place as me who was willing to meet with me with very little notice.

You can read about all the miracles that happened in my life as my heart surgery is continued in "The Greatest Miracle in My Life". One thing I learned from having a stroke is "that time is of the essence" and if you or anybody you know suffers any of the symptoms that I did, don’t wait but go immediately to a hospital. There is medicine that can be given in the first few hours that will prevent serious brain damage done by a stroke. Know the signs and act, if they ever happen.

Stroke Risks When Using Inverted Yoga Posture

Take care of stroke risks when using inverted yoga posture.

right brain strokeInversions, such as headstand (Sirsasana) and shoulder stand (Sarvangasana), are often considered “royal” poses by Hatha Yoga practitioners. Some students and teachers consider inversions to be of the utmost importance in their personal Hatha Yoga practice. While there are many benefits from inversions, students with pre-existing medical conditions, are put at risk unnecessarily. When we have no health problems, it is easy to put issues of risk and contraindications aside, but Yoga teachers and students should do their research.

In the case of students who have a history of strokes, within their family, or who have previously had a stroke, the approach to inversions should be “Extreme Caution.” Below is a question and answer session regarding the safety measures, contraindications, and information that should be readily available for Yoga teachers and students alike.

Q: I have a new student who had a stroke in the past year. I keep hearing cautions and contraindications about “recent strokes.” How recent, is recent? What should I know about helping her into wheel pose (Chakrasana), preparation for headstand, shoulder stand, or any other inversions?

A: About inversions for students who are at risk, with pre-existing medical conditions, such as strokes: I would not advise them, whether the stroke was recent, or not.

This person is at extreme risk when performing any posture where she is in a full inversion. There is also a fair amount of risk any time she puts her head below heart level, whether it is a forward fold or a back bend, such as wheel pose.

Here’s why: Strokes can occur for a variety of reasons. Among these causes – Blood clots, broken off pieces of artery plaque, and other masses, are commonly related causes of strokes. Once there is a blockage of blood to the brain, you have a stroke, due to the lack of oxygen and nutrients getting to the brain.

stroke in brain stem

Unfortunately, your student has a pre-existing medical condition. I wouldn’t turn a student upside down, who was in any risk category related to an inverted posture. I know this sounds harsh, but I doubt your student has her “doctor’s consent.” You may want to insist on it. A “doctor’s note” would be advisable.

This is for her protection, as well as yours. In her case, we are concerned with her health, safety, and well being. In your case – if she is injured, due to participating in your class, you have to live with it; and any resulting lawsuit could test the limits of your liability insurance.

For the record: Other contraindications, for inverted Yoga postures, include epilepsy, heart conditions, neck injuries, high blood pressure, glaucoma, and other eye problems. There is also significant debate about whether a student should pursue full inversions during menstruation and pregnancy. In all of these cases, the advice of a physician should be sought. Avoid the risk of stroke with inverted poses.

Stroke and Stem Cell Therapy

Stem Cell Therapy & Stroke

cord blood stem cell therapyThe sudden onset of stroke is devastating and leads to temporary and/or permanent disability to speech, sensation, memory and motor neuron damage. The damage is caused by a bleeding or blocked cerebral blood vessel leading to local brain damaged areas with loss of neurons and glial cells.

No effective therapy exists and therefore any stem cell treatment that may offer improvement would be greatly welcomed. With the

discovery of Mexico stem cell therapy has come new hope.

Although there are niches and reservoirs of stem cells in the adult brain their numbers are not sufficient to restore neurological function. The umbilical cord blood has stem cells that are pluripotent in their ability to be transformed into many precursor cells of various organs in the body including the brain.

Umbilical cord blood stem cells when placed into culture with nerve growth factor, brain neurotrophic factor and nutrients can form precursor progenitor brain stem cells.

Patients with post stroke syndrome (even for many years) can be given intravenous brain stem cells with stem cell therapy, oligodendrocytes to replace myelin and neuron stem cells. These cells will home (migrate) to areas of damaged brain tissue with hopes of stem cell treatment functional recovery.

Acupuncture as alternative treatment for a stroke

<alt=”traditional chinese medicines” hspace=”10″ vspace=”10″ width=”96″ height=”123″ align=”left” />Traditional Chinese Medicines (TCM) is usually regarded as an alternative treatment. Patients will seek help from TCM physicians only when they cannot be treated by western medication.

Lately, a growing number of western doctors have started to learn and use TCM to complement their western medical knowledge to treat their patients.

Acupuncture is a major component of TCM to fight pain and illness. It has been practiced in China since 2500 BC. It involves inserting thin, metallic disposable needles into certain points of the body. These needles are then turned by hand or stimulated by machine. The aim is to balance of qi or ‘life force’ in Chinese. TCM believes that qi flows in the body to keep us going, and it must be kept in good balance.

Acupuncture can have any one of the six effects:

- Relieve pain through raising the level of endorphins, a painkiller released by the body;

- Give a feeling of sedation;

- Adjust the body’s homeostasis or the balance opposing systems such as a respiration rate and body temperature;

- Enhance immune system;

- Provide an anti-inflammatory result;

- Furnish an anti-allergy effect.

Acupuncture is useful in treating muscular pains, joint pains, nerve pains, migraines, insomnia and anxiety. The World Health Organization (WHO) lists several conditions which can be treated by acupuncture, including rhinitis, headaches and facial palsy.

However, there are skeptics, too.

For instance, a German study in 2005 suggested that putting needles into the body causes pain relief, regardless of where they are placed because of the placebo effect – the patients believed they would be get better. This is of course not true from the viewpoint of TCM because the position of placing the needles is very important in treating illness.

Success stories do exist as well.
acupuncture, alternative treatment or a stroke
Here is a case study of a stroke patient, aged 71, who was treated with acupuncture while taking the western medicine.

A stroke left the right side of Steve’s body paralyzed. He could not turn over in bed. When he started acupuncture treatment with a TCM physician, he could not even lift his legs.

After 8 sessions, he could turn over in bed. And after 20 sessions, he was able to walk with the aid of a stick. Now, he can walk slowly for a whole hour.

His speech has become clear, too and he can swallow now. He can eat harder foods including apples.

He is taking anti-coagulants as well as drugs to manage his high cholesterol levels and hypertension. Both these are risk factors for heart disease. He is also doing 2 sessions of physiotherapy a week.

Even a few sessions before the 40 sessions prescribed for stroke patients, he has already begun to return to normal life.

Risk Of Heart Attack & Stroke For Women Increased By Air Pollution

stroke risk or womenA recent U.S. study published by the New England Journal of Medicine has found significant links between small particle air pollution and heart disease and risk of stroke. The researchers were based at the University of Washington and used data provided from the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) Observational Study involving 65,893 women in and around 36 U.S. cities. Of major importance in the WHI study was the establishment of a stronger statistical association between fine particulate air pollution and death  from coronary heart disease than that found in previous studies.

The average particulate levels in the study ranged from about 4 micrograms to almost 20 micrograms per cubic meter. The researchers found that each 10 microgram rise was matched by a 76% increase in the chances of death from heart disease or stroke.  Many of these particles are so tiny that it would take over 2 dozen to equal the thickness of a human hair.

It has long been known that particulates can contribute to lung and heart disease, with women perhaps more susceptible than men to heart problems because of their smaller blood vessels and other biological differences. Researchers believe that when dirty air is inhaled, invisible pollutants can become embedded in the lungs or travel through the bloodstream. They may then harden arteries or cause inflammation leading to cardiac disease or stroke. Unlike earlier studies, this one looked not just at deaths, but also at heart attacks, coronary disease, strokes and clogged arteries. In their calculations, the researchers tried to adjust for lower income and other health problems that have been blamed for the higher rates of disease in past studies.

Indoor air quality professionals have known for years that fine particulate air pollution can cause respiratory problems, especially in infants, the elderly and those with compromised immune systems. The Environmental Protection Agency tightened its daily limit on exposure to fine particulates in September 2006, but left the annual limit at a concentration of 15 millionths of a gram for every cubic meter of air. Many health professionals and air quality experts felt that the new EPA rules didn’t go far enough to protect the public. Several environmental groups and individual states sued the EPA last year for disregarding advice from its own scientists regarding tighter rules on fine particulate matter. The EPA’s Air Quality Index provides daily updates, including fine particle pollution and can be found at http://airnow.gov/

Although there isn’t much you can do about outdoor air pollution, indoor air quality is something you can have control over. Commercial air cleaners are not just for businesses, they have residential applications as well. For example, the SE-400 can remove large quantities of airborne particles that enter your home. The unit features a tightly woven aluminum mesh pre-filter that first removes large particles. Next, the smaller particles are trapped by the collector cells, which collect the particles like strong magnets. Help reduce the threat to your health from fine particulate matter by using superior commercial air cleaners.

Alcohol Can Prevent Stroke

Alcohol Consumption Can Save You From Having A Stroke

Let us clarify this situation right off the bat, everything in excess is bad for stroke case studyyour health, consuming and excessive amount of alcohol on a daily basis will without a doubt increase the risk of stroke. Now that we got that out of the way let’s move on to the actual studies and findings regarding the link between alcohol and stroke.

A stroke occurs when the brain stops receiving the vital oxygen which is carried by blood which flows through the blood vessels, the brain can stop receiving oxygen due to an obstruction (Ischemic stroke) or because of a ruptured vessel (hemorrhagic) — according to recent medical studies stroke is the third leading cause of death among Americans and is also a major cause of disability. Out of all the people who survive a stroke about 20% need institutionalized care and nearly 30% are permanently disabled.

In 2003, Journal of the American Medical Association, researchers from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine provided heavy evidence which indicates that an excessive consumption of alcohol can increase the risk of stroke while low to moderate consumption can protect against it.

Nearly half a million men and women were involved in the research, all of them were from different parts of the world and a total of 35 observational studies were conducted, in order to compare the results of people who drink alcohol to those who don’t a group of individuals called “controls” were kept from consuming any alcohol. The findings were nothing less than eye opening:

Excessive alcohol consumption:

Compared to controls (people who didn’t consuming alcohol) people who consumed 60 g of any alcoholic beverage (the equivalent of five drinks) suffer from a serious elevated risk of stroke, they had a 64% elevated risk of suffering from total stroke which is a combination of hemorrhagic and ischemic, they had a 69% risk of suffering from ischemic and an alarming 118% risk of suffering from hemorrhagic.

Light to moderate alcohol consumption:

Compared to controls subjects who consumed less than 12 g a day (the equivalent of one drink) lower the risk of total stroke by as much a 17 % and the risk of ischemic was reduced by as much as 20%. Those who consume two drinks a day or between 12 to 24 g which is considered moderate, were able to reduce the risk of ischemic stroke by as much as 28%, anything beyond that amount of daily alcohol consumption doesn’t provide any additional benefit when it comes to preventing the devastating effects of a stroke.

The results are somewhat controversial because most people will consume alcohol do not know the boundaries between though, moderate and excessive alcohol consumption.
